Associations

The term association is used by astronomers to describe groups of celestial objects, i.e., stars, nebulae, galaxies, etc., that seem to move together across the cosmos.  They probably have a common origin and may be loosely bound to each other gravitationally.  Members of an association may be scattered across the sky and difficult to recognise.  Many have been discovered from statistcal analysis of motion data recorded in various catalogs.
